Mobile Internet
These days CDMA technology is already implemented in Indonesia. Who are the operators? What kind of technology they used? What is the credit point of this CDMA technology?
Currently, there are several CDMA providers or operators. They are Telkom Flexi – Telkom group- with CDMA technology from Samsung, Motorola and Ericsson. Esia by Bakrie Telecom –previously Ratelindo– with technology from Nortel and Huawei, StarOne –Indosat group- with technology from ZTE and Fren by Mobile-8 Telecom with technology from Samsung.
In this writing, I will not describe what is the technology of each operators used. I want to share my experience in accessing Internet by using CDMA mobile wireless. Why? Because, in the past, we are always using Internet via dial-up, connected to LAN-WAN, and recently popular is using Wireless LAN.
I think it is already common to access the Internet by above ways. But what is interesting now is accessing Internet by using Mobile wireless, in this case is accessing Internet by using CDMA phone.
How can we access the Internet by using CDMA phone?
My experience is like below.
I have a notebook, CDMA phone, data cable/usb cable as an interface between notebook and CDMA phone. So, by optimizing these devices, I can connect to the Internet every time and everywhere.
Do you know how wonderful is this condition with Internet in your life? Every time and everywhere?
The way to access the Internet through CDMA phone is just like accessing the Internet by suing dial-up or connected to LAN-WAN. Only the way to access is different.
We are still using modem to connect the Internet. Just like dial-up, we need a port to connect to the phone line and the of course the modem and drivers as well.
Accessing Internet through CDMA phone is the same. Dial-up using CDMA phone by connecting the laptop with the CDMA phone by using usb data cable, and modem inside the CDMA phone, drivers and then dial.
Of course the access code is different. If we are using PSTN dial-up, we may dial 080989999 (TelkomNet Instan). But when we are using CDMA dial-up we may dial #777.
What about the Internet access speed?
They are different of course. By using CDMA dial-up the Internet access speed is faster than PSTN dial-up. CDMA dial-up is around 230 kbps and PSTN dial-up is around 50 kbps. So, this is the advantage of CDMA technology. Faster.

Good article, Man!!
I do have same experience using Mobile Internet. I use GPRS from Matrix. It's not ideal, and not as fast as you have with CDMA, but it still enough to me.
